O ct 2 00 1 Annihilation rate in positronic systems by quantum Monte Carlo . e + LiH as test case

چکیده
An accurate method to compute the annihilation rate in positronic systems by means of quantum Monte Carlo simulations is tested and compared with previously proposed methods using simple model systems. This method can be applied within all the quantum Monte Carlo techniques, just requiring to accumulate the positron-electron distribution function. The annihilation rate of eLiH as a function of the internuclear distance is studied using a model potential approach to eliminate the core electrons of Li, and explicitly correlated wave functions to deal with all the remaining particles. These results allow us to compute vibrationally averaged annihilation rates, and to understand the effect of the Li electric field on positron and electron

Fast convergence of quasi-Monte Carlo for a class of isotropic integrals
We consider the approximation of d-dimensional weighted integrals of certain isotropic functions. We are mainly interested in cases where d is large. We show that the convergence rate of quasi-Monte Carlo for the approximation of these integrals is O( √ logn/n). Since this is a worst case result, compared to the expected convergence rate O(n−1/2) of Monte Carlo, it shows the superiority of quas...
متن کاملErgodicity of the hybridization-expansion Monte Carlo algorithm for broken-symmetry states
With the success of dynamical mean-field theories, solvers for quantum-impurity problems have become an important tool for the numerical study of strongly correlated systems. Continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo sampling of the expansion in powers of the hybridization between the “impurity” and the bath provides a powerful solver when interactions are strong. Here we show that the usual updates ...

The bosonic IIB matrix model, which contains the bosonic part of the IIB matrix model conjectured to be a non-perturbative definition of the type IIB superstring theory, is studied using a numerical method. The large N scaling behavior of the model is shown performing a Monte Carlo simulation. The expectation value of the Wilson loop operator is measured and the string tension is estimated. Fro...

Depth distributions of positron-emitting nuclei in PMMA phantoms are calculated within a Monte Carlo model for Heavy-Ion Therapy (MCHIT) based on the GEANT4 toolkit (version 8.0). The calculated total production rates of C, C and O nuclei are compared with experimental data and with corresponding results of the FLUKA and POSGEN codes. The distributions of e annihilation points are obtained by s...

We discuss the effective string picture for the confining regime of lattice gauge theories at zero and finite temperature. We present results of extensive Monte Carlo simulations-performed with the Lüscher and Weisz algorithm-for SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions. We also address the issue of " string universality " by comparing our results with those obtained in other lattice gauge the...
